Tricolored Crater Lakes of Kelimutu
This small volcano is located in Indonesia. The volcano is best known for the three crater lakes that are located near the summit. Water in all three of the lakes is of different colors. The water of the lake changes colors from red to green. According to the local tradition, spirits of the dead go to these lakes depending on their deeds and so the lakes have been named accordingly. The names of the lakes can be translated as “Lake of Old People”, “Lake of Young Men and Maidens” and “Lake of Evil Spirits”.
