Rich history of Raja Ampat:
Another amazing thing about these islands is its rich history that made it an exotic concoction of many cultures. During the 15th century, the Melanesian locals became under the ruling of the Tidore Sultanate, a new and powerful kingdom back then. To watch over his interests there, the Sultan chose a king to rule over each of the four largest islands of the archipelago: Misool, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo hence the name “Raja Ampat.” After that, it was shortly invaded by the Netherlands and English explorers. But in spite of all that, the locals managed to keep their cultural background, the tribes still perform all their rituals and dances, living in harmony with the Christian and Muslim community.
Best Romantic Destination:
Couples have also been known to frequent the archipelago because of its natural romantic scenes, the local restaurants, and the outdoorsy B&B’s.
