The beautiful gardens of Keukenhof are the second most photographed place in the world after Taj Mahal because of the dazzling flowers and spectacular water fountains. Located in Netherlands, the garden is a popular tourist spot that has been praised for their ravishing beauty for over several centuries. It is the world’s largest garden and millions of tourists visit it every year to soak in the natural beauty and radiance of the place. The spring show organized in these gardens every year is truly breath taking.
The area where Keukenhof Gardens can be found originally belonged to the Countess Jacoba van Beieren who ruled over the region during early fifteenth century. The name Keukenhof means kitchen garden in the local language, and that’s exactly the purpose these gardens served originally. There is nothing left from the Countess’s palace and gardens now except for a few brick walls. The gardens have now been turned into one of the most opulent and dazzling places in the world with row upon row of tulips, hyacinths and other beautiful flowers. The waves of brilliantly coloured flowers mark the hills that slope towards a lake where swans can be seen gliding gracefully over calm waters. It truly looks like a scene out of paradise.
The garden requires a lot of hard work to be maintained. Every year in autumn, gardeners plant over 7 million bulbs in the soil and when they have blossomed and dried up they are dug up and removed from the garden. It takes at least 30 gardeners to look after this beautiful garden. It’s not just all flowers, but the Keukenhof Gardens are also famous for their concrete fountains and sculptors that grace the ground. There are over 30 pieces of art in the garden. There are also some theme gardens in this place such as historical, meadow, musical and Japanese gardens. There are resturants and indoor exhibits as well. The Keukenhof Gardens are only 11 miles from the capital, Amsterdam. If you are ever in Amsterdam don’t forget to visit this remarkable place and take lots of photographs so you can take away the memories of this place with you.
