La Paz is a beautiful city in Bolivia, specially known for its height from sea level around 4000 meters. It is considered in some of the highest cities in the world. Visit the city if you are a cultural traveler, La Paz is a very rich cultural city, including 19’th century churches, museums, artifacts and colorful markets. It is the largest city in Bolivia and the center of commerce, industry and finance, that’s why people also called it the de facto capital of Bolivia.
La Paz is situated on a broad canyon made by by the Choqueyapu River. The weather is warm in the city most of the time, so it’s advised to bring your warm clothes with you. The climate can be harsh and rainy from November to April. If you coming in these months than keep rain in mind and come with proper preparation.
Plaza Murillo is situated on the northern side of the river, it is the heart core of the city La Paz. Besides that, it’s contains the big cathedral, which has legislative palace. During your stay in La Paz you may visit Sagarnaga Street situated on the south of plaza San Fransisco. It is the main market of the city, you may book your hotel in this area, it’s not just cheap, but you may easily access most of the shops, travel agencies, tourism offices and restaurants here. The Witches market is also a good place to visit, it’s popular for Bolivian music instrumentals.
You go to Sagarnaga Street, than why not give a visit to the San Fransisco museum also located near in there. This religion complex house of the most important Bolivian historical moments. You may also climb the church tower and can enjoy a panoramic view of the city. National Ethnographic and Folk Museum and National Museum of Art also worth a visit.
Accommodation is not much expensive in the city, you may book an average 3 star hotel below $50 per night. The facilities provided are same as other tourists countries in South America. Overall La Paz is a safe city to visit, just be careful from any scam. Take care of your pockets, bags and mobiles in crowded area, and don’t trust anyone offering you cheap hotel, museums tickets, or taxi service. There are few official taxi services available in the city, always use taxi from them.
